Viewpoint tutorial- page 2

This is a boring page.. please bear with me before we get to the fun part :) If you like you can skip ahead a page or 2 & come back to this later.

First thing, you will want to go to the viewpoint site & download all the appropriate stuff. While you are there, you need to sign up to get a broadcast key.

What is a broadcast key?

Basicly, the key "unlocks" Viewpoint. Viewpoint is free to "hobbyists" --that is people who are using it for fun, and not commericially. So if you are someone who is "selling" something, or somehow making a profit, Viewpoint charges a royalty to use their programs (only fair!) But if you are using it for a non-profit use, they will grant you a free 6 month (renewable!) license.

What if I don't get a broadcast key?

If you don't have the key, viewpoint will still work on your page, but it will have this huge watermark that says "VIEWPOINT!" plastered on it!

During the signup process, they will ask you for the url of your page where viewpoint will be used. It is important that you get this right, because the key will ONLY work for the specific location you give here. What this means, is if you give them the url
http://www.geocities.com/mysimssite/skins/
But then put your skins at
http://www.geocities.com/mysimssite/my_favorite_skins/
then it won't work right!

So, if you have a small site, and just keep everything in one folder you don't need to worry to much. But if you have a site you "organize" into several folders, it is best to pick ONE to keep the skins in. Myself, I just name a folder "viewpoint" and keep everything there.

What if I have mirror sites, or my page can be viewed at more than one url (even though it's the same place)? such as:
http://mysimssite.geocities.com/
http://www.geocities.com/mysimssite/
http://members.geocities.com/~mysimssite/

Then what you want to do is go through & get several broadcast keys, one for each different address. (don't worry, this is perfectly fine.)

Once the process is done, they will email you a big funny number. that has your url at the end. This is your broadcast key :)

But what do I do with that key once I have it?
Onto the next step>>>>
